JC Blogs

Blogs from JoomClan.com Developers

Whether it is convenient and fruitful to use the two top open source content management systems (CMS) Joomla or Drupal is rather argumentative. Some peoples appreciate Joomla than Drupal; on the other hand, some finds Drupal is more conducive for their purposes. Again, some users assume both Joomla and Drupal are distinctively fit for their different purposes; as Drupal is great for Blogs, Joomla is more powerful for a full-blown CMS .Several research and surveys has been carried out to determine the users views and tendencies ,whether people seems Joomla or Drupal as for CMS use. To be decisive, let’s draw a nonbiased brief account about Joomla and Drupal.

System Requirements:

  1. Drupal works with MySQL and postgress whereas Joomla supports only MySQL.
  2. Drupal works with Apache or IIS whereas Joomla supports only Apache
  3. Joomla accessible with SSL logins and SSL pages. Drupal does not support it.

Site Management

  • Drupal has free added on for Workflow management. Joomla not known to have one.
  • Drupal has inbuilt Translation manager. Joomla has a Free ad on for the same
  • Drupal has more granular privilege management

Joomla and Drupal

Drupal fails on some access as Shopping Carts, Event Calendars, Document Management, template and Themes commercial community. The majority of these items are functions or features which are considered lacking in the Drupal CMS. Considering the other CMS, Joomla fails to provide in such elements as user permission, SEO,SSL compatibility ,content management, multi-site management, and standard's compliance. Moreover, considering the architectural and functional feature of these two CMS some people finds Drupal is more potential than Joomla ,because Drupal succeeds in architecture centric elements, since some users assume it is more important to have architectural feature in the CMS. However, if you want to make a quick sell where function, third party integration, and eye candy is necessary right out the box...Joomla still has the advantage.

Finally there are some features of these two CMS which decisively helps the users to decide which one they should use as per their need. As, Joomla have Community Builder ; A solid component, but one that really needs an SEF extension to enable YouTube-style URLs ; Virtue mart and an integration of OSCommerce ; forums; multimedia ; photo galleries ; event calendars ;themes and templates ; blogs ; document and management ; external integration ; commercial community ;general community ; great graphical interface in separate area of website ; learning curve One of the very easiest CMS systems to learn and customize ; as well as Producing a gorgeous site with a lot of functionality is a relatively easy task with Joomla. Besides, Drupal have very impressive community features, SEO , a native and very smooth forum, Drupal Video and podcast, photo galleries as a default module and a Gallery2 integration, blogs and user permissions, Unlimited categories and subcategories of content management , multisite management ,external integration ,documentation, SSL compatibility ,internationalization , standard compliance , general community , ease of use ,learning curve and good speed.

What do you foresee in the post-Drupal 5 and post-Joomla 1.5 era? It's tough to say, but I'm betting Drupal will likely become very competitive in functions as its architectural element. Then again Joomla have strong prospects as it continues to shed its roots with Mambo. Interesting times ahead to see how the comparison between Joomla and Drupal goes on, and which attributes determines the superiority.

Joomla & Drupal are now becoming hot products in terms of Content Management System. Almost all the knowledgeable and technically sound persons are now choosing both of them inorder to serve their purpose. Both Joomla & Drupal have there individual pros and cons but at the same time have their own specialties and positive factors. On the other hand, there are sites wherein neither Joomla nor Drupal are used. In such cases, clients have to choose some other CMS. Their increasing popularity amoung customers makes us eager to use and discuss both of them inorder to get the real picture.

If there is a comparison between Joomla & Drupal then there are many things, which ought to be taken into consideration. Joomla is best suited for the functional elements and on the other side, for the elements that are architectural in nature Drupal is the best CMS. If you are interested in some eye-catching elements then it’s obvious to choose Joomla. Drupal generally lacks attractive functions like shopping cart and themes etc. whereas Joomla lacks in the functions or features which requires more architectural details like user permission, site management etc. To be precise, considering both as CMS they have nothing in common.

It is said that Joomla is for those who are new in this field and are not tech-savvy. It’s very easy to learn, understand, implement and most of all its very simple to instal. If compared to Drupal it’s really a beginner’s choice. Drupal is much more technical and requires technical knowledge. In Joomla Search Engine Optimization is very poor, though Drupal has an advantage of having excellent SEO.

System requirements are also different in both Joomla & Drupal. Drupal is known to work with MySQL, Postgres, Apache & IIS but Joomla can only work for MySQL & Apache. Similarly if Joomla supports SSL logins then Drupal doesn’t support all this. Again as I said earlier, in one or the other field both the CMS’s differ.

Joomla is best known for the different themes that can be assigned differently to different pages but Drupal is not known to support any kind of themes. It has only one theme for all the pages. If one wants its website catchier then Joomla is a best bet.

In the field of E-commerce Joomla succeeds. It has a great support for shopping cart, which Drupal lacks. For e-commerce or shopping sites Drupal can never be the best option. Event calendars are also supported by Joomla but in the case of Drupal, option available are very low and pathetic.

As discussed and stated earlier that both Joomla and Drupal differ, yet there are many fields wherein both work simultaneously and smoothly. For instance, both of then support Multimedia very well. May be quality wise they can differ. Both can also support Blogs, which is really necessary for today’s scenario.

For getting clear concept on both Joomla and Drupal, check out the most lucrative features:

Community Features

Joomla allows community builder. A pure component, it requires and SEF extension to activate Youtube Style URLs. At the same time, Drupal is very attractive. It allows users to form groups and registration form’s expansion that is built in Drupal.

Forums

Joomla is useful for simple machines Forum that is the path received by Joomla board a Joomla.org what is built in Joomla. It’s comfortable and useful but it has lacks of many key features. On the other hand, Drupal is really smooth forum but it can not allow high end features for the modern forums. But it can be avoided by the vB Drupal a Drupal V bulletin Hack.

Multimedia

Joomla and Drupal both allows plenty of pod cast and video options. Both of them are useful for multimedia.

In spite of so many differences both Joomla and Drupal are the best options available for CMS. May be its Drupal’s multisided support and user permission feature or Joomla’s theme function and shopping cart feature , all the features and functions supported by them are needed and required by the clients. Some wants to have a multi functional site or some wants to have a good architectural site. So it’s really difficult to say which one is good or which one is more in demand. Both have equal demand and usage. This is actually not a comparison but a discussion. So, to conclude it is better to say that both Joomla & Drupal are suitable for the clients who actually know their usage.

Question: What is Modal Window?
Answer: A modal window is any type of window that is a child (secondary window) to a parent window and usurps the parent's control. It is commonly associated with an Internet Web site pop-up window that stays in front of the original window.  A user may not press any controls or enter any information on the parent window (the original window which opened the modal) until the modal has been closed. A modal window is commonly used when the author wants to retain the user's focus on the information in the modal as it is impossible for the user to interact with the other windows of the same process.
